Timeless TV Series Bejazzles Viewers
Classic South African Jazz
Creatrix conceptualised and produced a 13-part series, Bejazzled, broadcast on SABC3 in 2001 and reflighted as far as Addis Ababa during its numerous re-runs on Channel Africa. Lynn Joffe and Khaya Mahlangu co-hosted the series that featured three iconic South African artists a week representing aspects of the jazz genre.
Bejazzled captured 39 performances of our great – and late – jazz giants. Victor Ntoni, Zim Ngqwana, Johnny Fourie and Jack Lerole to name but a few, were recorded live and edited into thirteen episodes featuring three artists per program.
Lynn Joffe co-produced and co-hosted the series, composed and sang the signature and delivered to budget a timeless local musical showcase.
A selection of the recorded music was released concurrently on CD and offered as a prize giveaway at the end of each show. Cover designed by Herlo van Rensburg.
In this classic snippet from Bejazzled watch as Lynn swings the signature tune and introduces a trio of South Africa’s jazz giants: Big Jack Lerole, Zim Ngqawana and Phinda Mtya with whom Joffe sang the classic Afrojazz ballad, “Ntyilo Ntyilo.”
